Bye-Bye 2012…

We here at the LK house want to wish everyone a very happy New Year!  2012 brought a lot of things…a lot of wonderful things…and then a really terrible thing.  So in light of the recent months of 2012, Miss A, her Mommy & her Daddy would like to wish everyone a much improved 2013!

We had a wonderful night out with our amazing friends D&H.  Thank you for all the presents!!!  Thank you for sharing your New Years Eve with us!

You Make Plans….

And gd floods your house so you can make the design/decorating plans happen!  Right?

Construction is well underway, and even though our house still has a gaping hole to the outside & elements, they’ve made a ton of progress and I’m excited that they are going to start electric & plumbing tomorrow!  Our contractor is still convinced he’ll be done by April, and I am not.  However on the off chance that he wants to be able to spend some time with his family instead of being out in Long Beach all week long, I’ll say he’s motivated to get this rare winter full house renovation done with!  I thought I had better start planning!

mood boardI know that some of my inlaw family is going to be critical of how little color there is here, but I need to be inside the space to pick the color items.  I do not buy furniture or expensive items in colors since my color taste changes so frequently.  I like to use art and accessories to put the color in the rooms.  That will happen once we’re in the house.  Clearly Miss A is not afraid of color since her room is super colorful.  She helped me pick out almost everything for her room.  There will be sparkles incorporated as well since that is her main request!

It is crazy that we have to pick out every single item in every single room.  The only things we don’t need are dishes and wine glasses!  Crazy.

Will post more about my kitchen design when our layout is complete and we pick a cabinet maker!

If Mister LK and I are able to agree on these things, I’ll consider 2012 a success.  It has been quite a crazy year in the world & we’re looking forward to a better 2013!

 

Let’s Get Physical…

No…not me…I’m getting physical enough going up and down the 3 flights of stairs here 65 times a day!

These girls really think they are in trouble and when they get together now, they play SO nicely … it makes me feel so guilty for living so far away!

We had a birthday party last weekend for our friend Miss O … Miss A was in rare form!  She played nicely for about 2.3 seconds and then was just hungry.  I did manage to catch her being happy with her BFF 🙂

Just Sad…Sick…Stupid…

I’ve been sad and sick since yesterday morning when the news first broke.  I’ve been dumbfounded at how someone could, not only DO something like take the lives of 20 innocent babies but how someone could miss any warning that this person was so sick and never thought to get him help.

This was just stupid.  This did not have to happen.

This is also the reason that Mister LK will not have guns of any sort in my home.  I don’t care how many locks and safes are there for “safety”.  If he wants to shoot them he can store them somewhere else.  I won’t be responsible for any child, young adult, adult, or animal getting their hands on something that can cause such damage.  Yes there is something to teaching your children responsibility, and no I can’t imagine that I’d miss my little girl’s anger to the point of rage, but there’s always a chance and that is simply not a chance I’m willing to take.

We had a rough night here at the LK house.  The Mister is away for the weekend and A and I are here alone.  She didn’t sleep for more than 4 hours last night and we were up for the day at 5:50am.  I am tired, cranky, annoyed, with little patience thanks to lack of sleep and hormones.  I am also putting in all my effort to not show my frustration today in respect to all of the families who would give anything in the world to hear their babies calling “mommy” one more time.

I love my little girl more than life itself and although there are days that I want to hide under the covers from her, I can’t imagine my life without her.  The devastation we have felt over the past 7 weeks has been nothing compared to what these families will face.  Our family is safe and I can’t thank gd enough for that.

6 Weeks Later…

How is it only 6 weeks?  It feels like a year.  I know I’ve aged, I think Miss A has aged, and this situation sure has gotten old!

SLAP

Silver lining…b/c dwelling just isn’t getting us anywhere!  I’m renovating my entire house!  I am really excited and nervous about it but I think we’ve got a great team so far and I’m feeling better than I thought I would.  I’m super far away from my home & from my friends and that is really hard, but I’m trying to make it home at least once a week!  Tomorrow will be that day!  I’m excited to see the new framing and progress we’ve made since Friday!  We’re also meeting a kitchen designer & we’ll plan out the layout!

Debating on high-gloss vs. painted cabinets, flat fronts vs. shaker, marble vs. ceasarstone, drawers vs. cabinets….to name a few!  Opinions are welcome…except the ones that say high gloss & marble are high maintenance … I know that already!

29634_10151163981006935_1640464370_nOn the Miss A front, she started school last week!  She had a great week all things considered!  The drop off was torture…but the pick up was AWESOME!  She only gave me hell 1 day out of 3, and it was more to do with her being hungry and over stimulated than anything else!  She had picture day, which I was told she did with her blankie on her lap and they said she smiled!  She had pajama day which was exciting because she got to wear her princess tutu OUTSIDE!  And to top off her week, her Daddy dropped her off and picked her up on Friday!  All great things.  Oh – and she’s been going PP on the potty there!!!!!!!

In Mommy news, I’m adjusting to living here in this new place that is more like a foreign country, and I’m settling in slowly but surely.  Having some time to explore the area and drive around while Miss A is in school has been helpful.

Now that we have internet and I have a very little bit of downtime, I plan to be back up and running here on LKSquared…hope to have lots more updates soon!
